Dungeons and Dragons, hungry, writing

1. We introduced the kids (who are almost-7 and 9) to Dungeons and Dragons, a slightly expurgated version, and they both love it. Just got to level 3. Aiden has now discovered the Monster Manual books and is going through them, excited to find monsters they have already fought and also really high level creatures like level 34 solo brute Orcus. He already knows how to read the stats tables. He brings the books over to show me whenever he finds something interesting.

2. I've been really hungry all morning, but after breakfast and second breakfast and lunch I am finally satisfied.

3. The kids are going to a birthday party this afternoon. I would kind-of like to go along, but I've decided to leave that to Tim and I'll stay home and get some writing done.

Sweet spot, strawberries, spring

1. I have to wheel my husband's bicycle all the way to the shop for a repair after he unexpectedly had to leave early this morning and took the car. I find the perfect spot to hold it so that it wheels along beside me obediently, and it's even a comfortable height so that it's almost like I'm just resting my hand there. What I expected to be difficult turns out to be an easy 2 km stroll.

2. On the way home I drop into the markets and buy three punnets of strawberries for later.

3. It's cool-ish today, but early spring is in the air.

Assembly, got it, puppy

1. My son's class are hosting the school assembly. They sing three songs and Aiden reads out his one-paragraph essay on why he loves Canberra. During the songs they all do choreographed movements, but Aiden really gets into moving his body.

2. After a slightly frustrating morning shopping I find both the present I wanted and my favourite cereal at another shopping centre. I had to get the cereal down from a very high shelf with a pair of BBQ tongs, but I managed it.

3. The new puppy that comes to school during the afternoon pick-up seems very taken with me for some reason. I wonder if I somehow resemble the breeders; the first humans it knew before it was sold. Or maybe I'm just a calm presence amongst the crowd of noisy children.

Just flour, carbs, friday

1. Overheard in the supermarket.
Toddler in the trolley: "Cauliflower?"
Mother scanning the shelves: "No, darling, just plain flour."

2. After a week trying to stick to a low-carb diet, deciding to switch to a medium-carb version and then having a naughty high-carb lunch to celebrate. Carbs make me happy!

3. It's Friday.

Galahs, cool, tea

1. Five galahs (pink and grey cockatoos) in a tree, squawking to each other. Why do the pretty birds have such rough voices? Peacocks sound weird.

2. Getting home to a cool house after a hot walk, taking off my sweaty backpack and sweaty sunglasses and having a cool drink.

3. Tea without sugar is less horrible each day I stick to it.

Plum, husband, cool

1. My little boy was vomiting all yesterday. This morning, as I held him over a bucket again, I was so very very relieved to learn from his big sister that he had eaten part of a red plum for breakfast. Otherwise it would have been an immediate trip to the emergency room.

2. My husband is home to look after us.

3. We have a big cool house with air conditioning to get us through this heat wave.
